I have been checking into a Home Theater System and using Crestron Remotes and automation system to control it. It seems that Crestron is the cutting edge when it comes to this type of collaboration of A/V electronic systems and home computerization.
What are the benefits and are they any limitation to using their systems to Control your Home Theater? How easy is it to install and program for a Theater Room (controlling lights, curtains, projection screen, and all the components)? What about using Crestron to control multi-room systems?
Any advice, stories about your install or alternate system suggestion would be appreciated.

Re: Crestron Home Theater Automation? Pros and Cons
Wed, October 13, 2004 - 4:03 PMcan be expensive depending on setup, install, and programming...throw lightning into the mix will raise the price, but crestron also deals in lightning control systems...I say the install is easy, but the programming is a bit tough for the beginner.
I like Crestron and I think they're the best. -

Re: Crestron Home Theater Automation? Pros and Cons
Thu, October 14, 2004 - 12:25 PMCrestron is terrific, but intended for professional installation and programming. $$$$
I use a combo of Niles IR repeaters and a Home Theater Master MX-700. Works great (although still not too easy to program).

Re: Crestron Home Theater Automation? Pros and Cons
Mon, November 8, 2004 - 6:35 AMThere are a myriad of companies to use.
AMX, Crestron, i-connect, M+ Integration
AMX can get pretty pricey. I was told about $5000 a room (not including any touchpads).
i-Connect was less in price, but heard was easier to program than most systems.
Not sure if this helps -

Re: Crestron Home Theater Automation? Pros and Cons
Thu, February 17, 2005 - 10:23 AMCrestron is the cutting edge. It is not easy to program, and it is expensive. Once installed it is robust, reliable and terriffic. The distributed music system is great. And integrating with your computer thru what they term e-control is very cool
