Has anyone tried using a PC with Windows XP Media Center as the hub for their home theater system?

Have one central location for music (on hard disk) and two TV tuners. Hardwire Dolby 5.1 optical to my main sound system and component video to my projector.

Then have the option (a future upgrade) to stream wireless video and audio to my notebook computer.

well I have not played with the windows Media Center yet...but is sounds to me that you can modify an exisiting machine, ie sound cards, video cards, etc...but if you like to spend the money I like the alienwares DHS 5 nice and compact to fit in an equipment rack or entertainment system.

Those look really cool. Can you talk a little more about what they do, i.e. why I couldn't just dedicate a crappy old box to do the same thing. Which I guess of course I could do, but what specifically do the alienware boxes replace?

mainly there alot of high end components....CPU, Video cards, harddrive etc...here are some highlights I pasted here

Alienware, world-renown for high-end computing performance, has re-established itself as the new authority in the acoustic and viewing arena – the living room. Alienware DHS 5 series of media center systems bring the latest in audio and video content-management technology to your entire home. The DHS 5 series features Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005, which integrates functionality of individual A/V components into a single unit, complete with a common user interface and remote control. Alienware’s line offers an innovative multimedia package and the ability to store, playback, and burn CD’s and DVD’s, organize digital photos, works similar to TiVo® and Replay®, play and record live FM radio broadcasts, play the latest computer games, and download movies and music tracks on-demand. Then send any of that the recorded content to any TV or PC in your home with the addition of a Media Center Xtender*. The Alienware DHS 5 series feature an A/V horizontal form factor with an ultra-quiet chassis that fits easily into any home entertainment center.
