Fellow home theater tribers,
I'm moving into a new place and I've been trying to figure out the best arrangement for my entertainment center. The layout is roughly a 20 foot by 15 foot rectangular shaped room, with one wall being a window and door out to the deck. The ideal place for the tv would obviously be over the fireplace (and that excuse i've been looking for to get an LCD or plasma). My question is is what have some of you guys done to integrate your home theaters into an area like that? I have yet to take the temperature of the wall during a fire in the fireplace so I don't know if actually mounting it is an option, but it will probably be one of the first things i do, after i unpack and get situated.
I checked out the "Show Me Yours" galleries on CNET.com and they have some interesting set ups, but I thought i'd go to the community too : ) Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Cable Runs...
Sat, March 25, 2006 - 10:10 AMdon't forget about how your going to get wiring, cable, and such to your LCD or Plasma.
also I have seen in some cases that direct sunlight or even illumination from the fireplace may interefere with a IR remote. (it can get annoying at times).

Re: Cable Runs...
Sat, March 25, 2006 - 3:47 PMAhh, interesting I didn't think of that. I suppose there would be some times that I would have the fireplace on at the sametime as the tv. I don't have a fireplace in my apartment now, so it hasn't really been an issue. That and I don't have a LCD or plasma. And the wiring too. I see all these living rooms on CNET and there are no wires or very well hidden wires. That or a massive entertainment center, which I'm thinking might not be possible since the fireplace is in the logical space for it.
I was also thinking of one of those one speaker + subwoofer systems. I've read some great reviews on them, and if they can deliver the sound I'm looking for, it might be a good way to save space, without too much of the quality. Any thoughts on that?

Re: Cable Runs...
Mon, March 27, 2006 - 1:13 PMmost of the jobs I have done or been involved we had the builder or designer install conduit or PVC piping behind the walls to the media center location.
If you go along that route be sure u put in a good size conduit (1in should be fine) to pull the cable thru and future pulls.
the one in all speaker system I'm really not sure about that, the majority of reviews I seen or heard were bad. -

Re: Cable Runs...
Mon, March 27, 2006 - 2:10 PMYou've definitley got me thinking. Maybe I ought to call a pro out here and have them look at the options, especially since it looks I will have to work around the fireplace.
Do you have any recommendations for well priced and good quality recievers?
